The St. Regis Hotel Osaka presents a unique afternoon tea experience that bridges Japanese confectionery traditions and Western afternoon tea culture. From February 16 through April 30, 2026, the hotel's Brasserie RÉGINE on the second floor will host the "Taneya Strawberry Tea Ceremony Afternoon Tea," featuring an exclusive collaboration with Taneya, a renowned Japanese confectioner founded in 1872.
A Meeting of Two Traditions
This collaboration represents the first chapter of a planned series between Taneya and the St. Regis brand. Both establishments share a common philosophy: expressing the fleeting beauty of each season in its most refined form. Taneya has spent 150 years crafting traditional Japanese sweets inspired by nature, while St. Regis hotels worldwide have cultivated the ritual of afternoon tea as an art form.
The afternoon tea takes place in a specially designed setting on RÉGINE's second floor, where traditional Japanese confectionery molds (kashigata) are displayed along the counter, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional tea ceremony. This thoughtful design honors the craftsmanship inherent in both Japanese and Western culinary traditions.

Signature Sweets
All sweets for this afternoon tea have been specially arranged by Taneya exclusively for the St. Regis Hotel Osaka. The centerpiece is the "Nama-dora Ichigo Mini," a miniature fresh dorayaki featuring fluffy pancake-like layers filled with St. Regis Hotel Osaka's original fresh cream, juicy strawberries, and Taneya's traditional bean paste. Both brands' seals are stamped on this exclusive creation, making it available only at this collaboration.
Another highlight is the freshly made warabi mochi, which has a shelf life of just 30 seconds to preserve its delicate texture. Made to order, it melts instantly in the mouth, accompanied by the deep richness of kuromitsu (black sugar syrup).
The "Anmitsu Ichigo" combines clear, smooth kanten (agar jelly) with the tartness of fresh strawberries and the depth of kuromitsu, creating a light and seasonal flavor profile.
Traditional seasonal wagashi complete the sweet selection. Sakuramochi features lightly salted Oshima cherry leaves wrapping pale pink domyoji rice cake filled with white bean paste tinted a delicate cherry blossom pink. The fragrance and color evoke the arrival of spring.
Taneya's master artisans also create jōnamagashi (premium fresh wagashi) that change with the seasons. From February through March, "Koibumi" (Love Letter) and "Konohana" (This Flower) capture winter's quiet beauty. In April, "Harugasumi" (Spring Haze) and "Chō no Mai" (Butterfly Dance) express spring's gentle awakening. Each piece represents the essence of wagashi craftsmanship, adding elegance and refinement to the afternoon tea experience.
The scones pay homage to Japanese ingredients with "Dainagon & Matcha Scone," served with house-made Kyonoshizuku strawberry jam and clotted cream. Kyonoshizuku, a premium strawberry variety from Yawata City in Kyoto Prefecture, is carefully simmered to preserve its fresh flavor and natural sweetness, harmonizing beautifully with the slightly bitter matcha scone.

Savory Selections
The savory tier is designed to complement the sweet offerings through aromatic ingredients that evoke spring. "Crab and Cauliflower Mousse Monaka" uses Taneya's signature monaka wafers made from Omi region glutinous rice. The fragrant, crispy wafer embraces the umami of crab, creating a fusion of Japanese and Western culinary techniques.
"House-Smoked Salmon and Shiso Sandwich" layers gentle smoked flavors with the refreshing fragrance of shiso (perilla) leaves. "Parmesan and Foie Gras Soufflé" features a light, fluffy texture with subtle foie gras richness and mint accents. "Beef Pastrami Crêpe Roll" balances savory umami with gentle acidity, while "Bamboo Shoot and Prosciutto Quiche" showcases the aromatic essence of spring bamboo shoots.
Each savory item is crafted to express the season through fragrance and flavor, enriching the afternoon tea experience and leaving a memorable impression.
