About Saryo Hassui

Guests can enjoy tea confections and "mushiyashinai" — a Kyoto term for a light snack that temporarily satisfies hunger — from a prime seat overlooking the scenery.

Kyo Suiran occupies Enmeikaku, once the villa of Kawasaki Shozo, founder of the Kobe Kawasaki zaibatsu, and known as the Arashiyama Palace. The restaurant's restored features include a tokonoma alcove finished with gold leaf and cloisonné nail covers bearing the Kawasaki family crest, complemented by chandeliers inspired by braided cords and vermilion furnishings, creating a residential space that is both traditional and modern.
Kyo Suiran serves innovative cuisine that draws on seasonal Kyoto ingredients, combining the techniques of kaiseki cuisine — part of "washoku," a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage — with the sensibilities of French cooking.
