Saryo Hassui (茶寮 八翠), the café nestled along the Hozu River at Suiran Luxury Collection Hotel Kyoto in Arashiyama, will begin offering its limited-season "Hassui Kakigori" shaved ice on June 15, 2026. This summer's lineup features two varieties: the newly introduced "Mandarin and Yogurt Espuma" and a revamped version of the classic "Matcha."
The Hassui Kakigori is crafted from pure ice made with deep natural water from Shinshu, shaved to a light, airy texture that melts smoothly in the mouth. The new "Mandarin and Yogurt Espuma" flavor pairs the fresh sweetness of citrus with the clean acidity of yogurt, evoking the cool breezes of an Arashiyama summer. Smooth mandarin kanten jelly is nestled inside the mound of ice, while homemade mandarin syrup and yogurt espuma are layered on top, finished with juicy citrus fruit for a bright, refreshing taste.

The classic "Matcha" has been updated with a richer flavor profile. Uji matcha is now used in the syrup, delivering a crisp umami and a fresh, fragrant aroma in every spoonful. Rich matcha ice cream and sweet bean paste from long-established Kyoto confectionery Kameyayoshichou (亀屋良長) are hidden within the ice, creating a harmonious blend where the gentle bitterness of matcha meets the refined sweetness of azuki bean.
Guests can enjoy the cooling shaved ice while listening to the murmur of the Hozu River and taking in the lush green summer scenery of Arashiyama from the café.

Saryo Hassui carries on the tradition of "Hasshouken" (八賞軒), a historical building with over 100 years of history. The café offers terrace views of the Hozu River and Arashiyama throughout the four seasons and has 34 seats (24 table seats and 10 terrace seats). It is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
