Touch, Learn, and Play with Bugs! 2nd Summer Insect Fair at Hoshigaoka Mitsukoshi (July 29 – August 17)

The 2nd Summer Fureai Insect Land (第2回 夏休み!ふれあい昆虫ランド) is set to take place at Hoshigaoka Mitsukoshi in Nagoya from July 29 (Wednesday) to August 17 (Monday), 2026. The event features around 24 species of rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles from around the world, offering a rare chance to observe and interact with them up close.

Hands-On Insect Domes

During the first half of the event (July 29 – August 10), visitors can enter the "Fureai Kabuto Dome," where approximately 200 rhinoceros beetles roam freely. In the second half (August 11–17), the dome transforms into the "Fureai! Kuwagata Dome," featuring around 100 impressively large stag beetles.

There is also a special "Hercules Beetle Interaction Corner" where guests can get up close with the Hercules rhinoceros beetle. Note that a separate participation fee applies for this corner.

Surprising Discoveries and Unique Encounters

Beyond the beetle domes, the exhibit includes some unexpected highlights: scorpions that glow in the dark, a "Find the Stick Insect!" challenge, and flower chafers that emit a peach-like scent — fun surprises that delight both children and adults.

Shopping and Workshops

A sales corner on-site carries live insects, starter breeding kits, specimens, plush toys, and original insect-themed goods. Entry to the sales corner and workshop area is free, though participation in workshops requires a separate fee. Workshops are ideal for children looking for summer holiday project ideas, and are available even for those who are not comfortable with live insects.
