This year's Halloween afternoon tea brings playful sweets and savories inspired by witches, Frankenstein, and monster eyeballs. A three-tier stand is arranged with colorful, photo-worthy creations such as the Witch's Grape Jelly, Frankenstein Mousse, and the Monster Wrap.
The cheesecake flavor also changes monthly — chestnut in September and pumpkin in October — while other hotel-exclusive touches include a Halloween burger made with Mie Prefecture's Mikumano beef and a sandwich featuring rillette made from Matsusaka Kiwami Sawada pork and Ise chicken.
At The Lobby Lounge, overlooking Toba Bay in autumn, guests can settle in for a slightly mysterious and fun Halloween tea time built around the theme of monsters' mischief.
Halloween Afternoon Tea, Themed Around the Monsters' Mischief
This afternoon tea takes its cues from the monsters of Halloween, with a menu designed to be as fun to look at as it is to eat. The three-tier stand is filled with sweets and savories in Halloween-inspired shades of purple, black, and orange. The top tier holds the Witch's Grape Jelly, a Pumpkin Mont Blanc Muffin, and a bamboo charcoal cream puff. The middle tier brings a playful Frankenstein Mousse, the monthly cheesecake, and the Monster Wrap — a tortilla shaped like an eyeball. The bottom tier offers heartier savories, including a Halloween burger made with Mie Prefecture's Mikumano beef, a "Mimic-Style" rillette sandwich made with Matsusaka Kiwami Sawada pork and Ise chicken, and a bamboo charcoal quiche. A side plate rounds things out with the Seahorse Cookies familiar from Toba Hotel International's afternoon teas, along with two kinds of scones — purple sweet potato, and bamboo charcoal and cranberry — served with homemade strawberry jam and clotted cream. Every item is crafted with as much attention to flavor as to its playful appearance — an afternoon tea available only through the autumn season.
