Toneri Park in Tokyo Hosts 17-Day Spring Flower and Illumination Event with 35,000 Nemophila

Toneri Park in Adachi Ward, Tokyo is currently running "Hana to Hikari no Movement: Toneri Park — Nemophila and Hundred Flowers Scenery," a 17-day free illumination event from April 10 through April 26, 2026. Now in its fourth year, the event spotlights the park's signature nemophila bloom — with 35,000 plants on display — alongside colorful spring flowers and nightly light-up performances.

The theme for 2026 follows a "color story," moving through the vibrant hues of various spring flowers and arriving at the vivid blue of nemophila. Daytime and nighttime offer distinctly different atmospheres, with the illuminations using a custom shade of blue developed specifically to bring out the flowers' translucent beauty.

Nemophila Sky Stage [Lawn Area]

Nemophila Sky Stage — transparent platform installed above the nemophila flower bed

One of the standout attractions this year is the "Nemophila Sky Stage," an immersive photo spot built directly above the nemophila flower beds. A transparent acrylic floor is positioned over the blooms, letting visitors stand as if floating within the flowers themselves.

The transparent floor reveals a full spread of nemophila underfoot, while the flower garden behind creates a deeply immersive composition well-suited to photography. Visitors can also scan QR codes placed throughout the venue to activate a digital flower-shower effect on their smartphones, blending the real flower scenery with a digital layer.

Spring Color Layer Garden [Lawn Area]

The main flower display fills the lawn with 35,000 nemophila, creating a blue carpet that stretches beneath the open sky. During the day, the flowers sway in the spring breeze for a bright and refreshing view.

After dark, the garden is lit with a specially designed shade of blue, with brightness, saturation, tone, and illuminance carefully tuned to create a translucent, fantastical effect. Five different lighting patterns cycle through the night: a gentle "Wavering," a breezy "Soft Wind," a spreading "Ripple" effect from the center, a shadow-play mode that accentuates the flowers' contours, and a constant-on mode.

A new hexagonal garden bed debuts alongside the nemophila this year, filled with ranunculus, lobelia, calendula, and other colorful spring flowers, creating a vivid contrast against the blue nemophila.

Touch Photo Spot [Lawn Area]

A dome-shaped pergola photo spot is set up against the backdrop of the nemophila garden, surrounded by colorful spring blooms. During the day, the setting lends itself to vibrant, spring-filled photos. At night, a touch-activated box in front of the dome changes the light patterns at random — starting from gold and white, with red, blue, green, and rainbow modes also available. The location also benefits from sunset views in the background, and trains on the Nippori-Toneri Liner can be included in the frame.

Path of Flowers and Light [Approach]

The pathway leading to the nemophila garden is lined with round lights that shift color at random and flower-shaped glowing objects, guiding visitors through an atmospheric corridor on their way to the main flower beds. During the day, artificial flower arrangements and floral stickers add a playful, photogenic character to the route.

Spring of Flowers and Butterflies of Light [Fountain Plaza]

Flower and butterfly light sculptures at the fountain plaza

At the fountain plaza, a roughly 5-minute synchronized light show featuring flower and butterfly sculptures plays on repeat throughout the illumination period. The display includes flower lights up to 150 cm in diameter, and the water surface in the fountain reflects the light, adding depth and spread to the visual effect. Kitchen cars are set up in this area as well, offering light food and drinks.

Note: The fountain is not in operation during the event period.

Hundred Flowers Beginning / Blue Finale [Fountain Surroundings]

Near the park entrance, a flower garden mixing nemophila with daisies, gazanias, and other spring blooms welcomes visitors. New this year is a "TONERI" letter sign combining neon lighting with mirror-finish letters that reflect the surrounding flowers and scenery, creating an eye-catching photo spot both day and night.

During the latter half of the event (April 20–26), a special nighttime "Blue Finale" sees the metasequoia tree-lined avenue and the TONERI neon sign bathed in blue light, timed to coincide with nemophila reaching peak bloom.
