Phoenix Seagaia Resort's Shosenkyu Hot Spring to Open New Bath Wing "Mangetsu" in August 2026

Phoenix Seagaia Resort (Phoenix Resort Co., Ltd., Miyazaki City; President: Shunsuke Yamamoto, hereafter "Seagaia") is opening a new bath wing called "Mangetsu" (Full Moon) within the hot spring facility "Shosenkyu" adjacent to its flagship hotel, Phoenix Seagaia Ocean Tower. The new wing opens on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

A New Bathing Space in Harmony with the Pine Forest

The new bath wing "Mangetsu" features elevated architecture designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding pine forest landscape. By aligning sight lines with the height of the trees, the design creates an expansive, open feel enveloped by nature.

Both the outdoor and indoor baths are designed to offer views of the spreading pine forest, giving guests a sense of unity with the natural surroundings. The play of light and water changes with the time of day, offering distinct atmospheres in the morning, evening, and night. The wing's spatial design draws inspiration from "Takamagahara" — the realm of the gods in Japanese mythology — and extends the moon-themed world of Shosenkyu, which includes existing wings named "Tsukuyomi" (Moon Reader) and "Shingetsu" (New Moon), evoking the mythological spirit of Miyazaki.

New: Original Mud Pack Using Onsen Minerals

A new mud pack made from the mineral components of Shosenkyu's own hot spring water is now available. It gently removes old skin cells and impurities while adding moisture and firmness. The mineral-rich natural mud promotes circulation and improves skin texture, offering a luxurious skin-care experience enhanced by the synergistic effects of the hot spring.

About Shosenkyu Hot Spring

Nestled in a lush pine forest, Shosenkyu draws natural hot spring water from a depth of 1,000 meters below ground, from rock strata approximately 10 million years old. The water is rich in minerals including ancient marine fossil components, and is classified as an "iodine–sodium–chloride strongly saline spring." It is said to have a range of beneficial effects including recovery from fatigue, cold sensitivity, and joint pain, and is often referred to as a "beauty hot spring."

Befitting Miyazaki's title as the "homeland of mythology," Shosenkyu features two bath wings and five private baths named after the moon — in reference to Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto from the Kojiki — as well as "Oyunomiya," the first certified bathing chamber to embody the "Yudo" philosophy (the way of the bath) advocated by scriptwriter Kundo Koyama. The facility also includes a 230-meter corridor incorporating elements of Miyazaki's history, performing arts, traditions, culture, and mythology.

Tsukuyomi

The defining feature of Tsukuyomi is its open-air bath tucked quietly within the pine forest. Inhaling the scent of pine and exhaling slowly brings a warm, liberating sense of ease. Bathing at sunrise offers a beautiful sight as the morning light filters through the pines and reflects off the warm, misty water.

Shingetsu

The view from the bathtub evokes the underwater realm of Watatsumi (sea deity), with a pond extending beyond the outdoor area to soothe the mind. The ceiling of the indoor bath features Miyazaki's traditional "Oshima-nuri" lacquer technique arranged in a lattice pattern, with colors that shift depending on the angle of view, representing Japan's four seasons.

Private Rental Baths (Hanareyu)

In front of the free-flowing outdoor hot spring baths stands a serene pond surrounded by pine trees, creating a calm and restorative atmosphere. Each private bath comes with an outdoor bath and a small pavilion, as well as shower rooms and wash basins.

Oyunomiya

Born as the first certified bathing chamber embodying the "Yudo" (way of the bath) philosophy proposed by scriptwriter Kundo Koyama, Oyunomiya is equipped with various features designed to practice Yudo rituals. The bathing implements include local Miyazaki crafts and artisan works.
