Imuraya's popular Yawamochi Ice series is adding a new flavor to its parfait line: Yawamochi Ice Parfait Kasanari Matcha, the third flavor in the Yawamochi Ice Parfait lineup. It goes on sale as a seasonal limited item from Monday, October 5, 2026.
A specialty-shop luxury at home: an authentic matcha parfait ice cream built with Imuraya's expertise
The Yawamochi Ice Parfait line began with Yawamochi Ice Parfait Ichigo Daifuku Flavor, a seasonal item released in 2022 to mark the 10th anniversary of Yawamochi Ice. It was well received for its lavish parfait-style look and its faithful recreation of ichigo daifuku (strawberry daifuku).
Now the parfait series gets its third installment, Yawamochi Ice Parfait Kasanari Matcha. In today's matcha sweets market, "all-matcha" parfaits that put the flavor of matcha front and center, especially those served in Kyoto and at specialty shops, are drawing strong popularity. Drawing on the knowledge built up through past product development, this new item uses Uji matcha in all six layers, including the ice cream, mochi, and cake, for a rich, high-end result. It recreates the multilayered structure of an authentic matcha parfait from a specialty shop, so that each bite feels like being immersed in the depth of Uji matcha. The ingredients were chosen with care from the start.
Yawamochi Ice Parfait Kasanari Matcha: product highlights
1. Matcha from top to bottom: six layers of depth woven from Uji matcha
Uji matcha goes into all six layers, from the powder on top to the cake base at the bottom. Rich matcha ice cream made with Hokkaido fresh cream brings out the full aroma and flavor of the matcha in the other components. Matcha comes through in every bite, a finish that lives up to the name Kasanari Matcha ("Layered Matcha").
2. Made in-house: a variety of textures that melt into the ice cream
Every component is made in-house. There is chewy matcha mochi made with Uji matcha that stays soft even when frozen, a matcha cake layer baked light and fluffy, and a smooth matcha sauce based on fresh sweet bean paste (namaan), made with the bean paste-making techniques Imuraya uses for its Japanese confections. The matcha flavor is varied from one component to the next, and the matcha sauce in particular stands out for its strong Uji matcha flavor.
3. Color, aroma, and texture: contrasting ingredients for the excitement of a specialty-shop parfait
The top is finished with matcha powder that resists moisture, keeping the matcha's vivid color and aroma. The product also pursues contrast in every spoonful, with a rich matcha sauce and a crisp matcha coating. Open the lid to see a vivid deep green and smell the matcha, then work your way down to enjoy the six different textures. It brings the excitement of eating a specialty-shop parfait to your own home.

Recommended ways to enjoy the Yawamochi Ice series
Yawamochi Ice is delicious straight from the freezer, but the flavor changes depending on how long it is left to soften.
0 minutes (straight from the freezer): Springy with a chewy texture, a true frozen dessert.
5 minutes: The mochi softens and turns chewy, and the sweet red bean paste melts slightly for a smoother finish.
10 minutes: The mochi becomes even softer, with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. Perfect for when you want to savor the sweetness.

October 10 is Yawamochi Ice Day
The rice and adzuki beans used in Yawamochi Ice are familiar to people in Japan and are also used on special occasions. October was chosen for the anniversary as a way of giving thanks to autumn, when these ingredients are harvested. There is also a play on shapes: turn a Yawamochi Ice container on its side, and the ice cream and red bean paste look like a 1 while the round mochi looks like a 0. Together, 1 and 0 make 10, which is why October 10 became the commemorative day.

Imuraya's Yawamochi Ice series
The Yawamochi Ice series grew out of the idea of "Japanese-style sweets from a sweets parlor, at home." Developing mochi that stays soft even when frozen was a struggle, and it took three years to bring the product to life. In March 2024, the mochi was renewed for an even chewier, bouncier texture, and it continues to sell well.
