Jozankei Hana Momiji, a traditional ryokan situated at the heart of the Jozankei Onsen hot spring town in Minami-ku, Sapporo, has launched a lobby renovation project. The goal is to transform the lobby from a mere passageway into a genuine destination within the inn.
As the first phase of this renovation, the central lobby area has been reimagined as a "Free-Flow Lounge" where all staying guests can freely enjoy food and drinks at their leisure.

Concept: From Passageway to Destination
The vision behind the renovation is to give guests a refined sense of relaxation the moment they step into the inn. From the instant check-in is complete, the lobby offers a feeling of openness distinct from the guestrooms — functioning as a "second living room" where guests can settle into their preferred spot and unwind.
What the Free-Flow Lounge Offers
1. Carefully Selected Japanese Sweets

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with warabi mochi — a refined, delicately sweet jelly confection. The lounge also features onsen manju, a steamed bun that reflects the long history of the Shikanoyu hot spring established in 1897, along with a selection of local sweets from the greater Sapporo area. These treats are a gentle welcome after a day of travel.
2. A Selection of 12 Teas

Guests can choose from 12 varieties of tea bags, spanning Japanese green tea, black tea, Chinese tea, and seasonal flavored teas. Whether reading quietly or chatting with travel companions, the fragrant teas set a calm and soothing tone for the stay.
3. Free Drinks and DIY Cocktails

In addition to freshly ground coffee and soft drinks, the lounge offers a selection of alcoholic beverages including various liqueurs. A carbonated water server is also available, allowing guests to mix their own personalized cocktails — a fun way to unwind after a bath or following dinner.
Looking Ahead

The lobby renovation is described as just the beginning. Future plans include layering in elements such as books, music, and fragrance to create an immersive space that heightens the senses and offers a "luxurious sense of space" where guests can forget the rhythms of everyday life. The inn aims to gradually deepen the lounge experience, blending tradition and evolution in a way that feels distinctly Jozankei Hana Momiji.
