Manpei Hotel in Karuizawa, Nagano, is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its Alps-kan wing with a commemorative parfait. Starting July 1, 2026 (Wednesday), the "Alps-kan 90th Anniversary Parfait" will be available at the Café Terrace on the first floor of the Alps-kan.
The parfait combines flavors long cherished at Manpei Hotel with motifs that define the property, presented in a retro glass. At the top, delicate lilies of the valley hand-crafted from chocolate sit atop a matcha sponge cake, evoking the hotel's moss-covered courtyard garden. Beneath that lies a layer of fruit jelly designed to resemble the stained glass found throughout the Alps-kan, followed by a raspberry mousse that has been a beloved Manpei Hotel classic since the early Shōwa era. The base layer is finished with a royal milk tea chocolate crunch for added texture.
As you work your way down, the parfait offers a journey through refreshing fruit, tangy raspberry, and the fragrant crunch of crumble.
The serving plate features a "retro lily of the valley" pattern, a revival of a tableware design used at the hotel from the Taishō era through the Shōwa 10s (approximately 1935–1944) — the same pattern also appears on a collaboration handkerchief with Feiler.
