Grill restaurant THE COSMOPOLITAN GRILL BAR TERRACE, on the 9th floor of Grand Front Osaka's South Building, is serving a Southeast Asia-themed afternoon tea from Monday, August 17 through Thursday, October 15, 2026. The "Southeast Asian Afternoon Tea" is built around five countries — Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore — as the second installment of the restaurant's "Afternoon Tea Around the World" project, which explores the food cultures of the world through afternoon tea.
Southeast Asia's hot, humid climate has nurtured a food culture built on tropical fruits like coconut, mango, and banana, along with fragrant herbs and spices. Across the region's markets, street stalls, and home tables, a wide variety of sweets and drinks have taken root, each suited to being enjoyed comfortably even in the hottest months, despite the differences in culture from country to country.
The region has also long served as a hub for maritime trade, where people and ingredients have passed through for centuries. Chinese, Indian, and European influences have layered onto local traditions over time, shaping food cultures unique to each place.
Five Local Sweets, Reimagined for THE COSMOPOLITAN's Afternoon Tea
Khao Niao Mamuang | Thailand
Thailand's iconic mango dessert, "Khao Niao Mamuang" (mango sticky rice), is reimagined here with a coconut milk rice pudding. Rich coconut depth meets the refreshing sweetness of ripe mango for a distinctly tropical bite.
Che Dessert Glass | Vietnam
"Che," Vietnam's traditional sweet made by layering beans, fruit, and jelly, is served as a cooling glass dessert. Accented with vivid green zunda (mashed edamame), it lets each layer's distinct texture come through.
Pisang Goreng | Indonesia
A long-time favorite at street stalls and home kitchens across Indonesia, "Pisang Goreng" fried banana is coated in cinnamon sugar, delivering a light, crisp exterior with a warm, gooey sweetness inside.
Apam Balik | Malaysia
A pancake beloved at Malaysia's night markets, "Apam Balik" layers the gentle sweetness of roasted peanuts and corn for a nostalgic, local flavor.
Kaya Jam and Scones | Singapore
Singapore's classic kaya jam, made from coconut milk and pandan leaf, is paired with British-born scones. Southeast Asian and British tea cultures meet on a single plate — a dish that captures the theme of this collection.

Southeast Asian Savories That Awaken the Appetite with Aroma and Spice
The savory selection includes a tart built around "Massaman curry," known among Thai curries for its rich aroma and mellow flavor. Chicken thigh and bell pepper are simmered in a coconut-milk-based curry and packed into a light pie tart.
Also on the lineup is a "Tom Yum Kung shrimp canape," which layers the umami of shrimp with the aroma of lemongrass and lime. A paste that keeps the shrimp's texture tops a crispy open sandwich for a light finish.
The layered sweetness, sourness, spice, and aroma characteristic of Southeast Asian cuisine add a pleasant accent between the sweets.

Original Cocktails and Mocktails Inspired by the Five Countries
Drinks also feature original menu items reflecting the character of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Inspired by Vietnamese coffee, the "Saigon Espresso Martini" combines dark rum, espresso, condensed milk, and cacao.
Evoking the history of the Strait of Malacca, through which cultures and ingredients once passed, the "Malacca Highball" blends cognac, Earl Grey tea, honey, and lemon.
Reinterpreting Singapore's signature cocktail, the Singapore Sling, the "Marina Bay Fizz" combines pineapple, cherry, and sparkling wine for a colorful finish.
For mocktails, Thailand's "Siam Garden" blends lemongrass tea, white grape, and lime, while "Spice Market," evoking an Indonesian market with layered pineapple, apple, cinnamon, and mace aromas, rounds out the lineup.
Enjoy pairings carrying the aroma of fruit, herbs, and spice, as if traveling through each country.
A Complimentary Bottle of Thailand's Premium Beer, Singha
Each guest also receives one complimentary bottle of "Singha," the premium lager recognized by the Thai royal family. Loved since its debut in 1933, the beer is known for its rich, full-malt depth and refreshingly crisp finish.
