Hotel Harvest Atami Izusan Debuts an Afternoon Tea for Just 6 Guests a Day, Capturing Atami's Autumn Scenery

Hotel Harvest Atami Izusan, set in a spot of spectacular scenery where the blue sea and majestic mountains meet, is introducing its first-ever afternoon tea, "ATAMI Afternoon Tea – Indigo, Fuji, and Ripples," starting October 1, 2026 (Thursday). The experience is built around the hotel's "Story of Sea and Mountain," letting guests take in Atami's scenery through all five senses.

A Story for the Senses: Tasting the Scenery of Atami

Starting October 1, 2026 (Thursday), Hotel Harvest Atami Izusan is serving "ATAMI Afternoon Tea – Indigo, Fuji, and Ripples," a menu designed to let guests relive Atami's scenic views through taste, sight, and touch.

The concept behind the afternoon tea is to render the scenery of Atami, where sea and mountain meet, as edible art on a single plate. The round tea stand is shaped like ripples washing toward shore, and on each "wave" sits a vessel that evokes the sea's clarity, filled with the bounty of Izu and Shizuoka's rich land.

Among the sweets, a "Seasonal Tart" topped with a whirlpool-shaped chocolate tuile and a "Baumkuchen" with layers echoing Mount Fuji's ridgeline both convey a sense of place. Playful, live touches add to the experience too, from the sparkle of the "Jewel Box" to the "Shizuoka Matcha Affogato," prepared tableside in front of guests. As the hot matcha is poured over cold red-bean ice cream, the moment recalls water flowing from mountain to sea, with the contrasting flavors coming together in harmony.

The savory course is built around the theme "An Ensemble of Mountain Bounty and Sea Breeze." A "Shrimp and Persimmon Marinade" fragrant with Atami-grown citrus and a fig "Tartine" both carry a note of autumn air. A highlight is the "Atami Izusan Burger," which pairs the richness of Shizuoka-grown beef with the bold aroma of log-grown shiitake mushrooms from Atami. Homemade scones made with Mishima sweet potato and chestnut come with a New Summer Orange confiture, rounding out the autumn menu.

For drinks, the "Mount Fuji Glass" changes appearance depending on the liquid poured into it. Set against a backdrop of indigo sea and mountains, the afternoon tea invites guests to a relaxed tea time built around local ingredients, evoking a scene found only in this part of Atami.

A Menu Woven from Autumn's Harvest and Local Ingredients

Sweets: Autumn Colors and Playful Touches

Seasonal Tart

An original autumn tart from the pastry chef, combining juicy autumn fruits such as Shine Muscat and Kyoho grapes with smooth, whirlpool-shaped chocolate and the deep richness of homemade custard cream.

Izu Oshima Coarse Sea Salt Pudding

A smooth salted pudding in which mineral-rich, kettle-boiled coarse sea salt from Izu Oshima brings out the richness of egg and the sweetness of caramel.

Seasonal Gateau

A hotel-made gateau in which the pastry chef selects the season's best autumn fruit and balances its acidity, umami, and sweetness to capture the flavor of the moment.

Mount Fuji Baumkuchen

A baumkuchen shaped after Mount Fuji, Shizuoka's iconic symbol. Its thickly layered batter recreates the mountain's many ridgelines, offering a pleasing contrast of texture and toasted aroma.

Wagashi (Citrus-Scented Taiyaki)

A traditional taiyaki given a fresh twist with the fragrance of seasonal citrus, leaving a refreshing aftertaste.

Jewel Box

A box of three petits fours that sparkles like sunlight on rippling waves the moment its lid is opened. Each of the three varieties differs in sweetness, acidity, and texture, offering a shifting flavor much like waves washing in and out.

Shizuoka Matcha Affogato

Fragrant Shizuoka-grown matcha is whisked in front of guests and poured generously over cold red-bean ice cream, representing a river flowing from mountain to sea. The bitterness of the matcha and the gentle sweetness of the red-bean ice cream bring out the best in each other.

Savory: The Bounty of Atami and Shizuoka

Shrimp and Persimmon Marinade

A light dish combining sweet, autumn-ripened persimmon and plump shrimp, brought together with a house-made ponzu fragrant with Atami-grown citrus.

Fig and Prosciutto Tartine

A refreshing tartine layering the rich sweetness of in-season figs and the saltiness of prosciutto with the tang of yogurt.

Atami Izusan Burger

A mini burger with a patty of Shizuoka-grown beef layered with the rich aroma of log-grown shiitake mushrooms from Atami. The sweetness of the beef fat and the deep fragrance of the mushrooms come together in a simply seasoned dish that lets the ingredients' natural flavor stand out.

Scones: Savoring Seasonal Ingredients

Mishima Sweet Potato and Chestnut Scone

An autumn-only homemade scone combining the dense sweetness of Shizuoka-grown Mishima sweet potato with soft chestnut. It's served with a tangy New Summer Orange confiture from Shizuoka for a finish that never grows tiresome.
