THE KITANO HOTEL TOKYO Celebrates 7th Anniversary with Special "7 Feast" Course

THE KITANO HOTEL TOKYO is celebrating its 7th anniversary this spring. The hotel traces its origins to "Kitano Arms," Japan's first apartment hotel, which was beloved by prominent figures from various fields as well as international guests. After a complete rebuild, the current hotel opened in April 2019, carrying forward its founder's vision of "For Comfort" — providing genuine, high-quality relaxation in the city. In 2013, the hotel joined Relais & Châteaux, an organization of just 580 select properties and restaurants worldwide, and as Tokyo's sole member hotel, it has served as an ambassador for Japanese culture.

To mark the 7th anniversary milestone, the hotel is presenting a special course called "7 Feast," celebrating the journey of the past seven years while infusing it with fresh intention. The course is crafted by Executive Chef Ken Kamo around his signature spice-forward style, paired with Japanese wines and sake — a reflection of both the Relais & Châteaux philosophy of honoring local richness and THE KITANO HOTEL TOKYO's own mission to share Japanese culture with the world.

French Cuisine Meets a Free-Spirited Sensibility

Executive Chef Ken Kamo was invited by the Cambodian royal family to establish a French restaurant adjacent to the royal palace, where he spent 14 years bringing authentic French cuisine to the country. Immersed in Cambodia — where Eastern and Western cultures converge — he developed a style that draws on high-quality spices and diverse herbs encountered there. Throughout the "7 Feast" course, from amuse-bouche to dessert, refined spices are woven in at every stage.

A Pairing of Harmony and Discovery

The course is accompanied by a pairing that turns a spotlight on Japanese wines and sake, both of which continue to attract growing international attention. Each selection is distinctive in character yet pairs gently with the spice notes in the dishes — a once-in-a-lifetime marriage that invites guests to discover the remarkable depth of Japanese beverages.

Main Dish: Duck Roast with Seven Spices — Jus de Canard & Confit Cuisse

Chef Kamo's original

Drawing inspiration from the French classic quatre-épices (four spices: pepper, nutmeg, ginger, and clove), Chef Kamo developed his own original seven-spice blend. Sun-dried organic white pepper sourced from Cambodia, cardamom, star anise, clove, coriander, nutmeg, and cinnamon are combined with the rich depth of Magret duck. Mint is added to the white bean garnish, while a homemade chive salt is folded into the crumble scattered over the dish — giving the wild, robust flavors of the duck a modern, lighter finish.

A Glimpse into Kitano's History

Bringing the spirit of Japanese hospitality to a global standard.

In 1964, founder Tsugito Kitano established "Kitano Arms" in Hirakawa-cho, Tokyo — an apartment hotel concept he discovered during repeated visits to New York, where he had been contracted to build the Japanese pavilion at the World's Fair. The hotel became a home-away-from-home for politicians, cultural figures, and international visitors. Kitano also opened "HOTEL KITANO" in New York in 1973 to welcome the growing number of Japanese business travelers; that hotel continues to be recognized for its Japanese-style hospitality to this day.

"Kitano Arms" closed after reaching its 50th anniversary, and following a full reconstruction, THE KITANO HOTEL TOKYO was born in 2019. With just 70 rooms, the hotel delivers a level of warm, attentive hospitality unchanged since its founding — anchored by cuisine that nourishes both body and spirit, and an aesthetic deeply rooted in Japanese sensibility. As a Relais & Châteaux member since 2013, the hotel continues to carry the heart of Japan to audiences around the world.
