About "Tabelog 100 Best Kissaten 2026"

Under the concept "If you want to eat something delicious right now, go to these restaurants," the Tabelog 100 Best is a gourmet award that spotlights 100 highly rated establishments in each genre. The award has been presented across numerous genres since 2017, with the Kissaten edition now in its third year.

Looking at the breakdown by prefecture, Tokyo accounts for 58 of the selected establishments — more than half. In the Kansai region, known for its deep-rooted kissaten tradition, 12 establishments were chosen from Osaka Prefecture and 11 from Kyoto Prefecture.

Selection Criteria

Selection reference date: April 21, 2026

Establishments whose primary genre is listed as "Kissaten" on the selection reference date were eligible, with the top 100 ranked by score selected from among those.

11 First-Time Selections in 2026

This year's edition welcomes 11 establishments that appear on the list for the very first time.

Among the new entries are Café Lapin (Taitō-ku, Tokyo), celebrated for its aromatic nel drip coffee and thick-cut toast topped with a generous heap of eggs; Kissaten Satera (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), known for its signature pudding crafted from condensed milk and cream cheese for an exceptionally smooth and creamy texture; and Jikabaisenkohian (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo), which offers carefully hand-roasted coffee alongside hotcakes grilled on a copper plate to order, plus a caramel-scented crème brûlée.

Also newly selected is Café Terrace Pont Neuf (Minato-ku, Tokyo), where diners can enjoy thick, chewy aged noodles and a house-made hamburger steak made with coarsely ground onion.

From Osaka Prefecture, ザ・ミュンヒ (The Münch, Yao City, Osaka) earned its first selection. The café is renowned for its ultra-concentrated coffee brewed over more than an hour, and for a legendary aged coffee — priced at over ¥100,000 per cup after 30 years of maturation.
