Ryotei Hanzuiryo, which earned a Michelin 1-Key in 2025, in Nagasaki's Unzen Onsen, wants more travelers to discover its appeal, so it has prepared a special, discounted plan, limited to two parties per day, available exclusively to guests who have never stayed there before.
Ryotei Hanzuiryo is a kaiseki ryokan built in Japan's traditional sukiya-zukuri architectural style, with 14 detached guest rooms set within an approximately 5,000-tsubo Japanese garden. Since opening, the property has been enjoyed by many guests for its non-everyday space wrapped in the rich nature of Unzen-Amakusa National Park, its refined hospitality, and its authentic kaiseki cuisine, in which every detail — down to the tableware and plating — receives careful attention.
About Ryotei Hanzuiryo
In 1934, Unzen became the first national park designated in Japan. It was here, in a land alive with rich nature and a long history, that Ryotei Hanzuiryo was born.
The interior displays a range of crafts and furnishings throughout the property, letting guests feel the breath of the artisans and their traditional techniques through direct contact with genuine work.
Also on the grounds is Senshin-an, a tea house where, on special occasions, tea is served to guests staying at the ryokan.
Kaiseki Cuisine to Savor with Eyes and Palate
An elaborate kaiseki course, prepared with full hospitality, showcases the executive chef's attention to detail in every dish. A selection of sake from across Japan and other beverages is also available to pair with the meal, and guests can enjoy pairing menus or drink flights.
For the new plan, the ryokan is offering "Ginsen Kaiseki," a course built around seasonal ingredients hand-picked by the executive chef.
Hanzuiryo's signature kaiseki menu changes every month, so guests can encounter a new dish no matter how many times they visit.
A Tranquil Retreat for an Extraordinary Stay
Twelve of the property's 14 rooms are Hanzuiryo's signature two-story detached Japanese-Western or Japanese-style rooms with garden views (approx. 250 sqm), finished in the refined style of Japan's traditional sukiya-zukuri architecture for a calm, soothing space.
On the first floor, guests can enjoy an extraordinary meal in a spacious hall while taking in the garden.
The second floor, the heart of the stay, offers a tatami sitting room, a bedroom, and a wide veranda where guests can relax while taking in the view from the window — a luxurious use of space.

Ryotei Hanzuiryo is a property many long to visit at least once. For guests staying there for the first time, the ryokan has prepared this special plan, featuring a detached guest room, a tranquil and luxurious space, seasonal kaiseki cuisine, and the celebrated waters of Unzen Onsen.
This plan is limited to guests staying at Ryotei Hanzuiryo for the first time, including any companions. If a previous stay is found on record, the reservation may be changed to the regular rate.
